For NICU Friends and Family

It is no secret that the once foreign world of the NICU and caring for premature babies has made a distinct impression on our lives. We know that we are not the only ones on this journey. We are surrounded by friends and family members, who have reached out to us to help us along the journey. There are also many others out there whose lives are touched by high risk pregnancy, premature birth and special needs children.

We know the importance of having support along this journey. So we plan to make this page a landing pad for those who are trying to help and relate to anyone in your life who is touched by high risk pregnancy, premature birth and special needs children.

FOR PARENTS:

1. Here is a link to a PREEMIE baby book! So wish I would have had this! http://earlyarrivalinc.com/index.html
2. A NICU Mom's Devotional (also wish I would have had!) http://www.amazon.com/Prayers-NICU-Jeanna-J-Plunkett/dp/1617391913

FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF PREEMIES:

I love when people share with me about their friends with preemies. I love adding them to Team Gramkow's prayer list! The most often question I get asked is "How can we serve the preemie's parents while their baby is in the NICU?" So I thought this would be a great place to list what things were such a blessing to us! Best advice for you: Think of things that are going to serve their BASIC NEEDS, such as food, housework, cleaning, etc. so that they can use all their time and energy (physically and mentally) focusing on their sweet baby in the NICU.
  • gift cards of restaurants nearby the hospital
  • coordinate meals/freezer meals through support group of church/family/friends
  • gas cards
  • offer to clean their house, coordinate a cleaning service to come in (this was SUCH a blessing!)
  • help with childcare if they have other kids
  • again, if other siblings, offer to babysit so mom and dad can go to the NICU together
  • drop off healthy snackbars, breakfast food, fresh fruit and veggies they can eat on the go
  • join them for lunch at the hospital cafeteria especially if it's just one parent there during the day
