Never put off till tomorrow ...

Never put off till tomorrow that which you can do a few days from now. Er ... something like that. Well the people who do the acid reflux study and the pneumogram came today. Perhaps you'll recall that they were originally supposed to come on Friday to give the caffeine a chance to further disappear from Ellie's system. But they were supposed to do another baby today, so the test was rescheduled for today. When they came to do the test today they first told me they weren't sure if they could do the tests on Ellie due to ethical concerns. This was right after they noticed the Powercat on Ellie's crib. They're from Lawrence. After they had resolved their ethical dilemma one of them started explaining to me about the test as the other began unpacking their stuff. He told me that it may be uncomfortable for the baby but that the only permanent damage done during these tests is usually to the dad. I was okay with that. The test takes twelve hours and they were going to start it at about 5 pm. But Ellie was supposed to move rooms before 7 pm. I knew she would be hooked up to a lot of things so I asked if they would be able to move her after the test started. (And I told him that she was supposed to move today.) He indicated that there was a problem with that and thanked me for speaking up. Then he went out into the nurses station and quickly decided that Ellie's tests would be pushed back to Monday. Hmm ... what a puzzle. I thought it was because she was being moved. It turned out to be completely unrelated. When they ordered the breathing sensor they use to track the test subject's breathing they apparently got an adult size by mistake. They only had one infant sized sensor so they could only test one of the two babies they were supposed to. The other child was scheduled to go home in a day or two. So that is why Ellie has to wait until Monday. Drama. By the way, they are also waiting until after this study to switch her feedings over to her home feeding schedule. Waiting until Monday is technically a good thing from a clinical standpoint. The caffeine gradually disappears from Ellie's system and caffeine can affect the test results. So the test is more effective if they wait until she is caffeine free.
