Tuesday Morning Update
I am so not as creative as Ben on the ol Blog titles. Mine end up being a song... imagine that! Ellie had a good night last night. She got the Hep B vaccine and the nurse said she cried and so she held her for a while. So nice of her! :) This morning's report included only one brady and desat, so so far, so good. She's sure growing and oh, so cute! They haven't written orders yet for Ellie. She gets her orders written last (or near the end) because she's not on IV fluids anymore. Now we're watching like hawks to see when she can start cue based feedings - the nipple feedings (bottle). It'll be a combo package however because whatever she doesn't take for the bottle, she will get gavage (thru the nose tube). Also, she might start out on only 1 bottle, and the rest gavage...she's just got to give us the cues! Today's assessment indicated that she's still not ready. She's had to much mucus in her nose. So obviously, it's a bit hard to breathe when you're sucking as well. So until then, we'll keep practicing with the pacifier. They said it's typical for these preemies to have mucus because they've had so much trauma to their little noses. So no indication of a cold, being sick or anything like that...phew!
Ben and I had a good night bonding last night - we went to Dairy Queen and ordered ice cream thru the drive thru even though it was raining and super cold! Ben even said through the ordering speaker - "it's a great day to order ice cream, I'll have a..." I died laughing. Guess you had to be there! :)

What's the new estimate for when Ellie can go home?
ReplyDeleteI spent some time catching up with your blog this afternoon and it sure seems like there have been a lot of changes!
