Morning Update

We called the nurse at 6:30 before we came in to see her this morning. We always like to have a morning update. So why shouldn't you guys have it too? Feeding is going well. She eats 2.5 mL of mom's milk every 12 hours. It's delivered directly to her stomach via a tube. I'm starting to think they should leave the tube in for us because the babies I've seen have their own ideas about how much they want to eat. The nurses can even use the same tube to pump her stomach, check how digested the milk is, and either discard the contents or return them to her tummy. This morning we got to see her stomach pumped and the nurse said it looked like mostly enzymes and also some milk. Since it looked fine she returned so that Ellie could keep digesting. Her weight is down to 2 lbs 4 oz this was to be expected and amounts to a total of a ten percent loss of her original birth weight. That's a typical figure for all infants.
